On Wednesday, December 5th, we attended and photographed Long Island Pulse Magazine‘s holiday party which was touted as their inaugural “Winter White Party.” Despite our GPS leading us slightly astray, we eventually arrived at The Carltun inside Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, NY which was gorgeously decorated with white sparkling Christmas lights outside.
The foyer was already abuzz as we got our cameras ready. Guests were checking in at the registration desk, another photographer was preparing the step-and-repeat area, and vendors were setting up their tables full of holiday gift ideas. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were served for the first hour while guests browsed those vendor tables and admired the beautiful Christmas tree. There was also a room set up with a green screen so people could have their photos taken and superimposed on the “cover” of Long Island Pulse.
At around 6:30, the entrance to the grand ballroom was opened up. The room looked AMAZING! It was decorated with all white linens and chair covers. The white walls were uplighted with blue and purple lights and a projector was causing giant snowflake lights to dance around like snow. And speaking of snow…the entrance to the room, surrounded by a gorgeous arch of curved white branches doused in blue lights and decorated with sparkly icicles was set up under a snow machine so it actually “snowed” as people entered the room! Very cool!
A Gatsby-style buffet greeted the revelers in the dining room and they were entertained by a fantastic band for most of the night. Just when we were wondering how Pulse was going to top last year’s dance and knife-throwing performances however, the band took a little break as members of the National Double Dutch League took to the dance floor! Anyone who thinks the idea of watching people jump rope sounds boring has clearly never seen these men and women perform. Their show was fast-paced and full of energy! We saw them do everything from back flips to leap frogging over one another to synchronized cartwheels to laying flat on the ground…all while two jump ropes were swinging over and under them! It was totally crazy and the crowd really seemed to get into it!
A little later in the evening, we started noticing a bunch of guys dressed in white tracksuits with sneakers mingling in with the guests on the dance floor. As soon as the band finished their song, Rage Against the Machine started playing and next thing we knew a full on breakdancing battle was forming in the middle of the room! Talk about another fast-paced, high energy performance! These guys took turns spinning, flipping, and dancing in the center of room while everyone cheered them on! The strength and talent of these kids was amazing to watch.
Overall it was a fantastic party. We heard that Pulse received over 1,400 RSVPs and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves. Once again we can’t wait to see how they’re going to outdo themselves next year! Happy Holidays, Long Island!
