WATER MILL, NY 6/12/2017—Landscape Pleasures, the Parrish Art Museum’s annual two-day horticulture event on Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11, raised over $135,000, making it one of the most successful years of the event in the last decade. A mainstay of the Parrish Art Museum benefit events for the last 33 years, Landscape Pleasures helps to support the Museum’s year-round programs, exhibitions, and events.

The Saturday morning symposium hosted almost 200 attendees who heard presentations by leaders in garden design and landscape architecture: Writer/garden designer Page Dickey discussed her favorite gardens; landscape architect Christine Ten Eyck talked about the inherent beauty of Texas and the southwest; and R. William Thomas shared insights into the art of gardening at Chanticleer, the 48-acre pleasure garden in Wayne, Pennsylvania, now in its 24th year.

On Sunday, nearly 350 people participated in self-guided tours with exclusive access to private gardens in Water Mill and East Hampton including the estates of Arne and Milly Glimcher, Deborah Nevins, the Listowel Garden, and Grey Gardens—the former home of the infamous Beale sisters immortalized in the documentary by the Maysels and the Broadway musical.

In addition, 150 ticket purchasers at the Sponsor level and above ($400+) enjoyed a private cocktail reception at the estate of Louise and Leonard Riggio. Benefactor tickets holders attended a Saturday afternoon luncheon hosted by Parrish Trustee Veronica Atkins

2016 Landscape Pleasures event was co-chaired by Lillian Cohen, Martha B. McLanahan, and Linda Hackett Munson, with vice-chairs Stacy Paetzel, Tony Piazza, and Dennis Schrader.

Landscape Pleasures 2017 has been made possible, in part, by the generous support of Grand Patrons Lillian & Joel Cohen, and MARDERS; Grand Sponsors C.A.L. On Saturday, August 10, 2013, Sequin Jewelry on Jobs Lane in Southampton, NY participated in the “Shop for Paws” block party to benefit the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation.  20% of all sales from that day were donated to the shelter.

In addition, our friend Jean Shafiroff hosted a cocktail party inside the Sequin store to further benefit the animal shelter.  Many familiar faces and supporters of the foundation stopped in to say hello, meet some of the doggies up for adoption, have a glass of champagne, and of course purchase some of the beautiful jewelry!  I must admit, I was browsing the multitude of bracelets, necklaces, and earrings myself in between photographs!

While I was there, I met a super cute Miniature Pinscher mix named “Doodle” who is up for adoption.  The Southampton Animal Shelter recently partnered with the Humane Society of Northwest Georgia to find new forever homes for 8 long term residents of the Humane Society’s Dalton Georgia shelter.  “Doodle” is one of these dogs.  His brothers were adopted by a family who already had two other dogs and couldn’t take “Doodle” too.  He is between 5 and 7 years old and needs a little bit of potty training, but he is so well behaved and full of love!

The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that relies on the caring generosity of our donors and volunteers to care to for the homeless animals in our community, and place them in loving “forever homes”.

Thank you again to the very generous Jean Shafiroff for inviting us to this event and for bringing more awareness to this excellent cause supporting our four-legged friends!
