The annual National Meningitis Association (NMA) Give Kids a Shot Gala was once again an emotion filled evening but a stellar success in aiding the fight against meningitis, a potentially vaccine preventable disease. Held in the elegant ballrooms of the historic New York Athletic Club with phenomenal views of Central Park as a backdrop, hundreds of New York’s movers and shakers turned out to support the cause and also to congratulate meningitis survivor & Para Olympic Gold Medalist Nick Springer, an Honorary Chair along with Ambassador & Mrs. John L. Loeb, Jr.
Guests mingled over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while poring over the dazzling array of Silent Auction gifts from breathtaking jewels to one of a kind fashions and even a commemorative bottle of Medea Vodka with an LED message from Richard Thomas shimmering across the bottle like a Broadway marquee. NMA President Lynn Bozof and Committee Co-Chairs Sara Herbert Galloway, Gary Springer and Lenore Cooney swirled through the room greeting friends and introducing this year’s honorees: Dr. William Schaffner, Health Achievement Award Honoree for his advocacy of the role of vaccines in protecting individual and community health; Cindy Krejny, Moms on Meningitis Outstanding Service Award for her tireless efforts to educate the public about meningitis and her work with Ohio lawmakers to mandate vaccination for college students; Massachusetts State Senator Jack Hart who pushed the passage of a mandatory vaccination in his home state, with the Nancy Ford Springer Inspiration Award and NASCAR record breaking winner Kyle Busch & his wife Samantha with the Community Leadership Award for the work of their Kyle Busch Foundation in support of programs that aid disabled and disadvantaged children around the country.

Sara Herbert Galloway, Jim Luce, Norma Abbene
President Lynn Bozof gave moving testimony to the reason everyone was gathered – to prevent this dreaded disease by having pre-teens and teens vaccinated.
Well known author and broadcast journalist Rita Cosby, filling in for longtime NMA host actor Richard Thomas, who was filming, kept the evening running smoothly. Unexpectedly, Thomas showed up on a break from shooting Law & Order SVU to personally congratulate the honorees and thank all the supporters.
The National Meningitis Association (NMA) is a nonprofit organization founded by parents of children who have died or live with long-term effects from meningococcal disease, also called bacterial meningitis. NMA works to protect families from the potentially devastating effects of meningococcal disease by educating the public, medical professionals and others about the disease and its prevention. The NMA network also provides critical emotional support for families who have been affected by meningococcal disease. Additionally, NMA raises awareness of other preventable diseases and recommended vaccines across the lifespan.

During the 1990’s, there was a significant increase in the number of adolescents and young adults killed or disabled by meningococcal meningitis; young people who were seemingly healthy, vibrant and often athletic. Most of the families were unaware of a vaccine that could have saved their children’s lives or anguish. The National Meningitis Association (NMA), a non-profit organization, was formed in 2002 by parents whose children were killed or disabled by meningitis. Since then, NMA has created educational programs that reach millions of people each year with information about available immunizations and disease symptoms and thoughtful, comprehensive support programs for families devastated by the ravages of the disease.

On Saturday, October 29, 2011, Society-In-Focus attended Social Life Magazine’s Halloween Bash at Skylight Soho in Manhattan!
The weather was terrible all day long with a mix of pouring rain, sleet, and snow, but we managed to throw some costumes together and make our way into the city to shoot this fun event. When we arrived outside the West Soho club, a long line of shivering guests under umbrellas was waiting outside to be let into the party. We were told to knock on a side door to be let into the press check-in area. After fighting our way through the crowd, we managed to get in and get our orange leopard print wristbands. The coat check line was ridiculously long, but luckily we found somewhere else to stash our coats and equipment.
We walked into a huge 15,000 square foot space with 20 foot ceilings and concrete floors. The room was lit up with red lights and ghoulish images were being projected on the walls. DJ Marvilous and Tyger Lilly were spinning the beats and hundreds of guests were dancing and having a great time. Full open bars were set up around the room to justify the event’s ticket fee and a VIP room was set up on one end of the room where table service was being provided.

We saw so many awesome costumes this year! Everything from the traditional angel and devil, Catwoman, flappers, fairy tale characters, and can-can girls to the super creative like a disco ball, “the other 99%”, Double Dare contestants, Zipperface, Boardwalk Empire’s Richard Harrow, and a plastic surgery patient gone bad! People seemed to love posing for pictures with their friends and we were able to give out so many business cards! Everyone was drinking and dancing and some games of limbo even broke out!

Strawberry Shortcake and Friend

The party raged on until 2am at which time everyone formed another crazy long line for the coat check. We’re not really sure what was going on with the retrieval of the coats, but it seemed like the crowd was getting pretty upset about something. We got out of there just in time apparently because the cops showed up after we got back to the car!

Anyway, despite that little hiccup, this was definitely one of the coolest events we’ve shot this year. It was fun to dress up and spend Halloween in NYC! Were you at the party with us? Check out all the photos here and drop us some comments!

Hey everyone! Can you believe Halloween weekend is upon us already?? Just a quick note to let everyone know that Society-In-Focus will be headed to Manhattan this weekend! We’ve been invited to shoot a few Halloween parties at some NYC clubs on Saturday, so we’ll see where the night takes us. For now we’re throwing together some last-minute costume ideas and getting our camera equipment ready to go. What about you? Drop us a line and let us know what you’re dressing up as and where you plan to party. Maybe we’ll see you in the city! Happy Halloween!

A lot has happened here since our last post! After some research and careful thinking, T.H.E. Fitzgerald Photography has decided to start up a sister company focusing on the event photography aspect of our business. We’re proud to introduce our new website Society-In-Focus which just cleanly features photo galleries of all the Hamptons events and celebrities we’ve shot.
Our main company will still be providing all of its current services including wedding photography, portraits, and modeling portfolios, but we’ll be doing business as Society-In-Focus for all the future Hamptons and NYC event shoots. The galleries are open to the public and all the media outlets to view and prints and downloads are easily available for purchase at rates much lower than our bigger competitors. We’re very excited to start this new adventure and hope you’ll come check it out!

OK we’re back to posting, “again”, so here is the post from the last draft we had sitting in the queue, which by the way is somethig we did in the early summer/spring.
April 10th (yes this is was the last time we wrote something, but we will be writing all the time now) was Barry and Diana’s engagement shoot. This is one of those jobs that are just easy, because the bride and groom-to-be are just cool people all around. We met up out in front of Nero Restaurant on Gansevoort St. down in The Village. It was a perfect day for shooting. Because it was late in the morning, the north west sides of the buildings provided the perfect shooting locations because of the shadow areas with fill light bouncing off of the opposing structures. We walked around a bit, shooting in various locations and got some really cooly shots. Here is a photo from that day…

Just a mesage to let everyone know that we will be shooting in Manhattan twice in the March and April timeframe. We will be there for some wedding engagement shoots, a portrait shoot, and to meet with some Hamptons media editors. If you were planning on contacting us and meeting in Manhattan is most convenient for you, then please let us know as soon as possible. We will be sure to schedule some time with you.
